Day 3 - Team NL medals in the pool
Swimmer and Flag bearer Katie Power earned Team NL's first Medal of the Games with a sliver in the 50 Meter Backstroke. She followed up her performance with yet another silver in the 25 Meter Butterfly
Tim Sheppard kept the medal rush alive with a silver in 100M breaststroke.
The 5-Pin bowling team had started the day with a win over Saskatchewan #4 and complete the day with two wins and a loss. Fleetway Bowling Centre general manager Del Tucker says heandrsquo;s never seen the club as full as it was Wednesday afternoon. Coaches, family and athletes packed the house all day as competitors took to the lanes. Tucker estimated the Wednesday afternoon crowd at about 500, including 150 athletes.
The searing Wednesday afternoon heat led to postponement of several track and field events at TD Waterhouse Stadium. Games general manager Rick Gillespie said all afternoon events at the venue were suspended when a track level temperature reading exceeded the Games health limit of 30.1 C. Gillespie said the wet bulb thermometer reading, which factors in humidity as well as heat, was taken at about 1:30 p.m. At the time of the reading, most athletes were already on lunch break at the athletes village, where they remained for the afternoon. By 5 p.m., temperatures were back in the safe range and all postponed events were made up Wednesday evening.
Team NLandrsquo;s soccer squad played their divisioning round and came out in B division. They will face Saskachawan, Manitoba and Oakville, Ont where regulation play begins Thursday
