Dr. Carmel Casey has been named as the Medical Officer for the 2011 Special Olympics Canada National Team Program competing in Athens, Greece.

Special Olympics Canada is pleased to announce that Dr. Carmel Casey has been named as the Medical Officer for the 2011 Special Olympics Canada National Team Program competing in Athens, Greece. Dr. Casey is from Gander, NFLD, where she has been a family practitioner for nineteen years. In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Casey has been a tireless worker for Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador, as a coach, program leader, and advocate at all levels; locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. Dr. Casey is currently president of the Gander Club and she is head coach for the local athletics, snowshoe and active start programs. Dr. Casey was the recipient of the Jim Thompson Award at the 2009 Special Olympics Canada Awards Evening.

Dr. Casey held the same position for Team Canada for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise, Idaho. The 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games will be held on June 25th - July 4th in Athens, Greece.
