Today is Jackie Barrett Day in Corner Brook.
City council approved the recognition of the Special Olympian who resides in Gillams at its public meeting Monday.
The power-lifter claimed three gold and a silver at the 2011 Special Olympics World Games in Athens, Greece this summer,
Barrett, who trains at the Humber Community YMCA and is a member of the local Special Olympics organization, was acknowledged with a certificate for his success while representing Canada at the Games. He and members of his family were present at the meeting for the official presentation.
